Botanical descriptions :

Diagnostic characters : Evergreen trees, bark smooth. Leaves simple alternate and distichous. Inflorescence axillary, leaf-opposed. Fruit smooth, berry-like, yellowish.
Habit : Evergreen tree up to 12 m tall.
Trunk & bark : Bole straight, bark brownish-grey, thin, smooth.
Branches and branchlets or twigs : Twigs terete, glabrous.
Exudates : Exudate absent.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate and distichous, glabrous, elliptic to ovate, apex acute, base cuneate.
Midrib flat above; secondary veins obtuse, widely parallel, tertiary veins reticulate.
Stipules absent.
Inflorescences or flowers : Flowers arranged in few-flowered clusters, leaf-opposed, bisexual, pedicels up to 4 mm long.
Fruits : Fruitlets 3.5 - 9 cm, cylindrical, smooth, not splitting open.
Seeds : Seeds 3-5.

Habitat and ecology :

In the Annamites fairly common in evergreen forest. In Vietnam found up to 1900 m altitude.

Distribution :

Laos (Khammouan), Vietnam.
