Botanical descriptions :

Diagnostic characters : Small evergreen twiggy spiny trees, branchlets glabrous. Exudate white. Leaves simple, alternate, distichous, margins dentate and spiny especially near the apex. Stipules absent. Flowers unisexual on the same tree. Fruit a fleshy drupe.
Habit : Small evergreen bushy twiggy tree up to 8 m.
Trunk & bark : Trunk dark grey often with short spiny twigs, branches with axillary spines.
Branches and branchlets or twigs : Branches terete, glabrous.
Exudates : Exudate white.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, distichous 5-10 x 1-4 cm, elliptic to ovate rarely obovate, glabrous apex acute to acuminate, base acute to rounded, margin dentate particularly near apex.
Midrib flat.
Primary vein single, secondary veins 5-7, oblique, looped, tertiary veins reticulate. Petiole 2 mm, terete, glabrous.
Stipules absent.
Inflorescences or flowers : Flowers unisexual on the same tree, male 1-4, axillary, in heads, female usually solitary, small, greenish.
Fruits : Fruit a fleshy drupe, ellipsoidal.
Seeds : Seed 1.

Habitat and ecology :

Rare in evergreen forest.

Distribution :

Burma (Myanmar), India, (Andaman Is.), Indochina, Thailand, Laos.
