Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Trees slightly buttressed, up to 25 m tall.
Trunk & Bark : Bark brown, large lenticellate; blaze pinkish.
Branches and Branchlets : Young branchlets terete, pubescent.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, spiral; petioles 1.5-2.5 cm long; lamina 6.5-10 x 2.5-5 cm, elliptic to elliptic-ovate, apex acute to shortly acuminate sometimes obtuse, base asymmetric, margin revolute, glabrous, often puberulous along midrib above, coriaceous, drying black; midrib canaliculate above; secondary_nerves 6-10 pairs; tertiary_nerves broadly reticulate.
Inflorescence / Flower : Inflorescence terminal or axillary corymbose cymes.
Fruit and Seed : Drupe, ca. 1.5 cm long, obliquely ellipsoid, compressed; seed 1, obovate, compressed.

Ecology :

Occasional canopy trees in evergreen forests between up to 1500 m.

Distribution :

Indomalaysia to Africa; in the Western_Ghats- South and Central Sahyadris.
