Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Small trees.
Trunk & Bark : Bark smooth, brown.
Branches and Branchlets : Branchlets terete, glabrous.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, spiral; stipules caducous; petiole 0.5-1 cm long, canaliculate; lamina 5.5-8 x 3-5.5 cm, obovate or orbicular, apex obtuse or retuse, base cuneate; midrib slightly raised above; secondary_nerves ca. 5 pairs; tertiary_nerves reticulate.
Inflorescence / Flower : Flowers unisexual, dioecious; male flowers in axillary catkins, 2.5 cm long; female flowers in condensed cymes.
Fruit and Seed : Capsule fusiform, glabrous, beaked, 2 cm long, 2-4 seeded.

Ecology :

Understorey trees in evergreen forests.

Distribution :

India and Sri Lanka; in the Western_Ghats- Central Sahyadris.
