Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Trees up to 8 m tall.
Trunk & Bark : Bark whitish; blaze reddish brown.
Branches and Branchlets : Branchlets slender, glabrous, terete.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, spiral; stipule minute, caducous; petiole 1-1.5 cm long, canaliculate, glabrous; lamina 8-13 x 2.5-5 cm, elliptic to lanceolate, apex acute to acuminate with blunt tip, base acute, margin distantly crenulate with glands at crenatures, chartaceous, glabrous; midrib raised above; secondary_nerves 8-12 pairs; tertiary_nerves broadly reticulate.
Inflorescence / Flower : Inflorescence dichotomous cymes; flowers white, unisexual, monoecious; central flower of each cyme subsessile female.
Fruit and Seed : Capsule, three 2-valved cocci, seeds 3.

Ecology :

Understorey trees in evergreen forests between 550 and 1200 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats- Agasthyamalai in South Sahyadri.
