Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Trees up to 7 m tall.
Trunk & Bark : Bark brown, lenticellate, smooth; blaze light orange.
Branches and Branchlets : Young branchlets subterete, glabrescent.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate distichous; petiole 0.4-1.5 cm long, planoconvex in cross section, glabrous; lamina 7-18 x 2-5.5 cm, usually oblanceolate to narrow elliptic, apex acuminate, base acute, margin entire, chartaceous, glaucous beneath, glabrescent beneath; midrib flat above; secondary_nerves 7-9; tertiary_nerves reticulo-percurrent.
Inflorescence / Flower : Inflorescence umbels in axillary and lateral sessile or shortly peduncled clusters; flowers unisexual.
Fruit and Seed : Berry, ellipsoid, to 1.5 cm long, seated on fruiting_perianth_cup; seed 1.

Ecology :

Common understorey trees in low and medium elevation evergreen forests between 200 and 1000 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats- South and Central Sahyadris.
