Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Trees up to 5 m tall.
Trunk & Bark : Bark greyish brown, smooth; blaze light orange.
Branches and Branchlets : Branchlets terete, glabrous.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, distichous; petiole 0.5-1 cm long, planoconvex in cross section, glabrous; lamina 6.5-12.5 x 1.5-3 cm, linear lanceolate to linear elliptic, apex narrowly acute to gradually acuminate, base narrow acute, margin entire, glabrous, glaucous beneath; midrib slightly raised above; secondary_nerves 6-7 pairs, slender; tertiary_nerves obscure.
Inflorescence / Flower : Inflorescence umbels in axillary and lateral sessile or shortly peduncled clusters; flowers unisexual.
Fruit and Seed : Berry, ellipsoid, seated on the enlarged fruiting_perianth_cup; seed 1.

Ecology :

Understorey trees in low to high elevation evergreen forests between 200 and 1800 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats- South and Central Sahyadris.

Status :

Rare & Threatened (Ahmedullah & Nayar, 1987).
