Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Large shrub or small trees up to 4 m tall.
Trunk\bark : Bark greyish white, irregularly flaky when mature.
Branchlets : Young branchlets angular, glabrous.
Leaves : Leaves simple, opposite, decussate; stipules intrapetiolar, sheathing, caducous and leaving scar; petioles 0.3-0.7 cm long, planoconvex in cross section, glabrous; lamina 4.5-10 × 1.5-2 cm, narrowly elliptic to narrowly obovate, apex acute to shortly acuminate, base attenuate, margin entire, glabrous; midrib raised above; secondary_nerves ca. 9 pairs; tertiary_nerves broadly reticulate.
Flowers : Inflorescence corymbose cymes, terminal, few flowered; flowers white; pedicel up to 0.4 cm long.
Fruit& seed : Berry, with 2 pyrenes; seeds one per pyrene.

Ecology :

Undergrowth in evergreen forests ca. 720 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the southern Western_Ghats-.

status :

Possibly extinct (Nayar, 1997).
