Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Trees ca. 5 m tall.
Branches and Branchlets : Branchlets slender, subterete, drying yellowish.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, spiral; stipules caducous; petiole 0.6-1.5 cm long, canaliculate, glabrous; lamina 5-11 x 1.3-4 cm, elliptic-narrow oblong, apex caudate, base acute to subattenuate, margin entire, chartaceous, glabrous; midrib raised above;secondary_nerves 5-8 pairs, gradually curved; tertiary_nerves broadly reticulate.
Inflorescence / Flower : Flowers unisexual, dioecious; male flowers greenish white in small spikes; female flower in sessile clusters.
Fruit and Seed : Capsule, globose, endocarp red; seed 1.

Ecology :

Understorey trees in evergreen forests up to 900 m.

Distribution :

Western_Ghats and Sri Lanka; in the Western_Ghats- South Sahyadri.
