Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Trees up to 5 m tall.
Trunk & Bark : Bark greyish, usually smooth.
Branches and Branchlets : Branchlets terete, subterete with plenty of lenticels, glabrous, canaliculate.
Exudates : Whitish sap from the cut end of leaves and twigs.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate or subopposite, spiral; stipules caducous; petiole 0.5-1.5 cm long, glabrous, canaliculate; lamina 6-19 x 2.5-8 cm, variable in shape from narrow elliptic to ovate, apex bluntly acute to acuminate, base asymmetric or rounded to acute, margin entire, chartaceous, glabrous; midrib flat above; secondary_nerves 5-8 pairs, lowest pair opposite and acute in angle; tertiary_nerves broadly reticulo-percurrent.
Inflorescence / Flower : Flowers unisexual, monoecious; male flowers in terminal slender racemes; female flowers few at the base of the male racemes.
Fruit and Seed : Capsule, ellipsoid or subglobose, deeply 3 lobed; seeds 3.

Ecology :

In wet evergreen to dry evergreen forests of Western_Ghats up to 900 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to Western_Ghats- mostly in Central Sahyadri.
