Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Trees up to 12 m tall.
Trunk & Bark : Trunk fluted; bark grey, smooth.
Branches and Branchlets : Branches often drooping; branchlets terete, glabrous.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, distichous; stipules caducous; petiole ca. 0.5 cm, canaliculate; lamina 6-9 x 2-2.5 cm, elliptic, apex acuminate to caudate-acuminate with blunt tip, base asymmetric; midrib canaliculate; secondary_nerves 10-15 pairs, slender; tertiary_nerves admedially_ramified.
Inflorescence / Flower : Flowers unisexual; male in axillary clusters; female axillary, solitary.
Fruit and Seed : Drupe, ellipsoid, 1-seeded.

Ecology :

Common in medium elevation evergreen forests between 600 and 1400 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats- between Elamalai and Anamalai Hills in South Sahyadri, and Nilgiri south in Tamil Nadu Ghats.
