Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Small trees, up to 5 m tall.
Branches and Branchlets : Branchlets distinctly quadrangular, glabrous.
Leaves : Leaves simple, opposite, decussate; stipules caducous; petiole 0.4-0.7 cm long, canaliculate, glabrous; lamina 5-10 x 1.3-4 cm, narrow elliptic or lanceolate, apex narrowly acute or acuminate, base acute; margin thick, slightly incurved, glabrous; secondary_nerves obscure beneath, slightly visible above; tertiary_nerves obscure.
Inflorescence / Flower : Inflorescence axillary cymes; flowers dull purple.
Fruit and Seed : Capsule, obovate, 5 winged, 1-2 seeds per lobe.

Ecology :

Understorey tree in medium elevation evergreen forests, between 800 and 1400 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats- locally frequent in Palakkad hills of Tamil Nadu Ghats and rare in South Sahyadri.

Status :

Vulnerable (IUCN, 2000).
