Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Tree up to 8 m tall.
Trunk\bark : Bark brownish, fissured when mature; blaze pinkish.
Branchlets : Branchlets terete, glabrous.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, distichous; stipule caducous and leaving scar; petioles ca.0.3 cm long, planoconvex in cross section, glabrous; lamina 9 x 3 cm, elliptic or elliptic-oblong, apex acuminate with mucronate tip, base asymmetric and attenuate - decurrent, margin entire; midrib flat or slightly raised above; secondary_nerves 5-10 pairs; tertiary_nerves horizontally reticulo-percurrent.
Flowers : Inflorescence in axillary fascicles; flowers unisexual, monoecious.
Fruit& seed : Capsule depressed, 3-6 lobed.

Ecology :

Along margin of evergreen forests between 200 and 1600 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats- South and Central Sahyadris.
