Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Buttressed trees, up to 30 m tall.
Trunk\bark : Trunk fluted; bark brown, flaky; blaze reddish.
Branchlets : Young branchlets stout, scaly, tomentose.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, spiral, clustered at twig ends; stipules 0.3 cm long, scaly, lanceolate or subulate, lateral, caducous and leaving scar; petiole stout 0.6-2.5 cm long, terete, scaly, swollen at both ends; lamina 7.5-13 (-21) x 2.6-6.5 cm, ovate to ovate - lanceolate, apex acute to narrowly acuminate, base rounded - subcordate, margin entire, thinly coriaceous, with silvery lepidote scales beneath, glabrous above; midrib raised above; basally 3-nerved basal; secondary_nerves 3-6 pairs (apart from lateral ribs) ascending; tertiary_nerves reticulo-percurrent, sometimes obscure.
Flowers : Inflorescence axillary panicles; flowers unisexual, small, cream colored.
Fruit& seed : Samaroid, brown, 3.6 (-6.4) cm long; seed one.

Ecology :

Canopy trees in wet evergreen forests 400 to 1400 m.

Distribution :

India; in the Western_Ghats- South and Central Sahyadris.
