Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Trees up to 15 m tall.
Trunk & Bark : Bark blackish.
Leaves : Leaves compound, paripinnate; stipules ovate, appendages small, falcate; rachis of leaves flattened and winged; leaflets 3-4 pairs, lamina 7.6-10.2 x 2.5-3.8 cm, lanceolate-oblanceolate, apex gradually long acuminate to caudate, base asymmetric, chartaceous; secondary_nerves ca. 10 pairs, upper pairs looped; tertiary_nerves reticulo-percurrent.
Inflorescence / Flower : Inflorescence cauliflorus fascicled racemes, tawny-velvety; petals white, veined with pink; calyx crimson red.
Fruit and Seed : Pod scarlet, pubescent.

Ecology :

Understorey tree in medium elevation wet evergreen forests between 900 and 1000 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats- Agasthyamalai and Elamalai Hills in South Sahyadri.

Status :

Endangered (IUCN, 2000).
