Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Shrubs or small trees, up to 5 m tall.
Branches and Branchlets : Branchlets and buds glabrous.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, distichous; petiole 0.3-0.4 cm long, slender, glabrous; lamina 4-8 x 2-3.5 cm, elliptic-oblong or lanceolate, apex obtusely acuminate, base acute to rounded, margin entire, thinly coriaceous, glabrous; secondary_nerves 6-8, slender; tertiary_nerves reticulate.
Inflorescence / Flower : Flowers usually solitary, axillary; pedicels slender 0.7-2.0 cm long, glabrous.
Fruit and Seed : Clustered 1-2 seeded berries, globose, apiculate, glabrous, brownish black, short-stalked.

Ecology :

Understorey tree in medium elevation evergreen forests, from 600-1000 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats- South Sahyadri and Coorg Region.

Status :

Vulnerable (IUCN, 2000).
