Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Small trees ca. 7 m tall.
Branchlets : Young branchlets slender, compressed to terete, glabrous.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, spiral; petiole 0.2-0.3 cm long, canaliculate, glabrous; lamina 2.5-4.5 x 1.7-2.5 cm, elliptic, apex acute to rounded, base cuneate to attenuate, margin dentate and revolute, glabrous, glaucous beneath; midrib canaliculate above; secondary_nerves 5-7 pairs; intramarginal nerves present; tertiary_nerves broadly reticulate.
Flowers : Flowers solitary, axillary; pedicel up to 1.2 cm long.
Fruit& seed : Drupe, cylinderic, crowned by calyx lobes; seeds 1-3.

Ecology :

Understorey trees in high elevation evergreen forests between 1800 and 2200 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to southern Western_Ghats- Anaimalai and Palani hills.

status :

Rare & Threatened (Ahmedullah & Nayar, 1986); Endangered (IUCN, 2000).
