Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Trees up to 10 m tall.
Branchlets : Branchlets, stout, terete, densely rusty tomentose.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, spiral, sometimes crowded at apex; petiole 1-2.5 cm long, planoconvex in cross section, rusty tomentose; lamina 6.5-20 x 3-9 cm, elliptic, apex acuminate with twisted acumen, base acute to rounded, margin serrate and revolute when mature, coriaceous, drying yellowish, glabrous above, sparsely hairy on blade beneath, densely tomentose on midrib and secondary_nerves beneath; midrib canaliculate above; secondary_nerves 8-12 pairs, prominent beneath; tertiary_nerves horizontally reticulo-percurrent.
Flowers : Inflorescence axillary spikes, up to 7 cm long; calyx tomentose; flowers sessile.
Fruit& seed : Drupe, cylindrical up to 2 cm long, greenish-white.

Ecology :

Understorey trees in high elevation evergreen forests between 1100 and 2000 m.

Distribution :

India and Sri Lanka; in the Western_Ghats- South and Central (up to Chikmagalur Region) Sahyadris.
