Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Small trees, up to 8 m tall.
Leaves : Leaves simple, opposite, decussate; stipule caducous; petiole 2-3 cm long, canaliculate; lamina 5-13 x 2.5-4 cm, ovate-lanceolate, apex long acuminate, base acute to slightly rounded, margin entire or slightly serrate, glands along the margin beneath the lower third of lamina; midrib canaliculate; secondary_nerves 4-6 pairs, the lower most ones subopposite, domatia hairy; tertiary_nerves percurrent.
Inflorescence / Flower : Inflorescence compound umbel and corymbiform; flowers greenish white, anther violet.
Fruit and Seed : Drupe, ellipsoid, glabrous; 1-seeded, compressed.

Ecology :

Along the margin of high altitude evergreen forests generally between 1600 and 1800 m.

Distribution :

India, Bhutan, Myanmar and Indonesia; in the Western_Ghats- common in Anamalai and Palani Hills and also recorded from Coorg (Thalacauvery).
