Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Trees up to 7 m tall.
Branches and Branchlets : Young branchlets slender, terete, brown tomentose.
Leaves : Leaves simple, subverticilate; petiole 0.6-1 cm long, planoconvex in cross section, glabrous; lamina 3.6-10 x1.5-3.5 cm, narrow elliptic to oblanceolate, apex obtuse, base cuneate, margin entire, glabrous when mature, glaucous beneath; midrib raised above; secondary_nerves 7-8 pairs; tertiary_nerves closely_horizontally_percurrent, not prominent.
Inflorescence / Flower : Flowers unisexual, dioecious, in axillary fascicles or on lateral clusters.
Fruit and Seed : Berry, globose, ca. 0.6 cm in diameter; seed 1.

Ecology :

Understorey trees in evergreen forests between 1000 and 1800 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats- Agasthyamalai Hills, south Varushanad Hills and Palakkad Hills.

Status :

Vulnerable (IUCN, 2000).
