Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Large shrubs to small trees up to 4 m tall.
Branches and Branchlets : Branchlets terete, stellate_scaly.
Leaves : Leaves usually alternate, spiral, sometimes subopposite; stipules subulate, caducous; petiole 0.5-2.5 cm long, canaliculate, stellate_scaly; lamina 7-18 x 1.8-4.5 cm, narrow elliptic-oblong to lanceolate, apex narrowly long acuminate, base acute, margin entire, chartaceous, densely silvery stellate_scaly beneath; stipitate glands 1-2 pairs at the junction of petiole and lamina; secondary_nerves 5-10 pairs, lower most pair opposite and acute in angle; tertiary_nerves broadly percurrent.
Inflorescence / Flower : Inflorescence in terminal racemes, clothed with silvery scales; flowers unisexual, monoecious.
Fruit and Seed : Capsule ovoid-oblong, slightly 3-lobed, reddish-brown stellate; seeds 3.

Ecology :

Undergrowth in evergreen forests up to 1500 m.

Distribution :

Western_Ghats and Sri Lanka; in the Western_Ghats- occasional in South and Central Sahyadris.
