Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Large shrubs or small trees, up to 5 m tall.
Branches and Branchlets : Branchlets slender, pubescent.
Leaves : Leaves simple, opposite, decussate; petiole 0.3-0.7 cm, flat above, glabrous; lamina 8-15 x 2.5-6.2 cm, elliptic to narrow-elliptic, apex acuminate, base acute to cuneate, margin serrate (serrations starts 1-2.5 cm above the base), chartaceous, glabrous; midrib slightly raised above; secondary_nerves ca. 8 pairs; tertiary_nerves very slender, broadly reticulate.
Inflorescence / Flower : Flowers in axillary or extra-axillary dichasial cymes, pale greenish-yellow.
Fruit and Seed : Capsule, 1-4 celled, smooth; seeds arillate.

Ecology :

Understorey tree in wet evergreen forests between 500 and 900 m.

Distribution :

Peninsular India and Sri Lanka; in the Western_Ghats- rarely found in Agasthyamalai, Anamalai, Palakkad hills.
