Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Trees buttressed, up to 30 m tall.
Trunk & Bark : Bark brownish, smooth, lenticellate; blaze light orange.
Branches and Branchlets : Branchlets subterete, rusty tomentose.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, spiral; petiole 1.3-3 cm long, slightly canaliculate above, rusty tomentose; lamina 11-27 x 5-12.5 cm, broadly elliptic to elliptic-obovate, apex obtuse to rounded, base acute, sometimes rounded, margin entire, coriaceous, drying reddish brown beneath, pubescent when young at least on nerves and midrib beneath; midrib raised above; secondary_nerves 10-15 pairs, strong slightly impressed above; tertiary_nerves obliquely_percurrent, strong.
Inflorescence / Flower : Flowers in sessile or subsessile clusters of umbels on old branches, rusty tomentose.
Fruit and Seed : Berry, ellipsoid, to 2.5 cm long, on a deep obconic warted fruiting_perianth_cup; seed 1.

Ecology :

Canopy trees in medium elevation evergreen forests between 600 and 1000 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats- South Sahyadri, Palakkad Hills and south Nilgiris.
