Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Large shrubs ca. 4 m tall.
Branches and Branchlets : Branchlets subterete, slender, glabrous.
Leaves : Leaves simple, opposite, decussate; petioles 0.4 cm, planoconvex in cross section, glabrous; lamina 6-10 x 2-3 cm, lanceolate, apex gradually acuminate, base acute, margin entire; midrib slightly canaliculate; secondary_nerves obscurely visible, parallel and joining into intramarginal_nerve; tertiary_nerves obscure.
Inflorescence / Flower : Flowers in axillary or lateral fascicles, few flowered, sessile; disk rays faint.
Fruit and Seed : Berry, globose, yellow; seed 1.

Ecology :

Undergrowth in medium elevation evergreen forests between 600 and 900 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats- occasional in South Sahyadri, Palakkad to Wayanad in Central Sahyadri.

Status :

Vulnerable (IUCN, 2000).
