Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Small trees, up to 12 m tall.
Branches and Branchlets : Branchlets minutely ferruginous pubescent.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, distichous; petiole to 0.6-1.3 cm long, canaliculate; ferruginous pubescent; lamina 8-16 x 3.5-6.7 cm ovate to elliptic, apex acuminate with blunt tip, base acute to rounded, margin entire, coriaceous, dark green above, glabrous; domatia hairy at axils of secondary_nerves; secondary_nerves 6-8 pairs, prominent; tertiary and higher order nerves reticulate.
Inflorescence / Flower : Flowers solitary or 2-3 in leaf opposed cymes, pedicels ca.1 cm long, pubescent; petals white to yellow.
Fruit and Seed : Clustered 1-2 seeded berries, globose, tomentose.

Ecology :

Understorey tree in low elevation evergreen forests, up to 600 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats- rarely found in South and Central Sahyadris.

Status :

Vulnerable (IUCN, 2000).
